Janet Pittman “Gams” Buchanan, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, departed this life on January 1, 2026, at the age of 72. Janet was born on April 11, 1953, to Wallace and Othella Chastain Pittman, and she cherished every moment of her life.
Janet was a steadfast presence in the lives of her family, whom she loved fiercely. She is survived by her two sons, Jeremy (Amy) Buchanan and Jacob (Tiffany) Buchanan, as well as her beloved grandchildren: Gabriel, Jasmine, Maddie, Kevin, Jordan, and Emma Buchanan. She is also survived by her sister, Sandra Pittman, her brother, Joey (Shannon) Pittman, as well as nieces, nephews, and cousins who will remember her warmth and kindness.
Janet was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Roy Michael “Pops” Buchanan.
Janet believed in the importance of honesty, allowing people to always know where they stood with her. She had a “spitfire” personality and a contagious presence that endeared her to everyone who knew her personally. She was a devoted member of Kingtown Baptist Church and took great joy in her connections with her church family. Janet loved watching sports, with a particular fondness for the Lady Rebels basketball team. She could often be found laughing and enjoying “The Andy Griffith Show” and “I Love Lucy.”
Visitation will be held at Kingtown Baptist Church in McCaysville, GA, on January 11, 2026, from 1:00 - 3:00 PM, allowing friends and family to gather in remembrance. A memorial service will follow at the church at 3:00 PM to honor Janet’s life.
Friends are invited to join her family in this time of remembrance and tribute. She will be dearly missed but will live on in the hearts of those she touched with her love and kindness.
