Janet CANNON

September 22, 1941 - September 21, 2025

Spokane - Janet Anne Cannon passed away resting, Sunday, September 21, 2025, at age 83, in Spokane's South Hill Rehabilitation and Care Center. After a long battle with dementia, she is now at peace.

Janet lived a full, beautiful life. She worked for many years at Gonzaga University, where she made lifelong friends. She volunteered with Hospice of Spokane, who then provided care assistance for her this year. She was an inspirationally strong single mother. As a cancer survivor, twice over, Janet's fighting spirit will carry on in the lives made better for knowing her. She was kind, loving, thoughtful, and generous. One of her greatest gifts was her ability to truly listen to others. She made anyone who spent time with her feel loved and at home. She was an amazing storyteller and writer, with such attention to detail. Retelling the origin of her treasured belongings and antiques was a favorite pastime. She enjoyed composing letters and cards; one of the many ways she showed her love to others. She was an avid animal and nature lover. She could be found tending to her garden or enjoying the outdoors from the comfort of her celebrated front porch. She cherished family dinners; set around a long table, passing food and stories. When all were quietly eating, she would say, "An angel must be passing over us."

Janet is survived by her children, James Cannon (Pamela), Susan Cannon, and Bud Cannon; her grandchildren, Gabby Cannon, Alex Cannon, Sam Cannon, and Megan Cannon; her sister, Marilyn Allen; her nephews, Mark Allen (Chrissy), Aaron Allen, and Chad Allen; and her niece, Justine Blair. She was preceded in death by her son, Michael Cannon. She found peace knowing they would be together again. With her passing the day before her 84th birthday, it was honored by them reunited.

A memorial service will be held Sunday, October 19, at 2 p.m., at San Souci West Clubhouse. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to: petsaversspokane.org.
