On August 24, 2025, Janet Sue Claridy, 72, of Kosse, traded her blue suede shoes for angel’s wings.

Janet was a lifelong Elvis Presley fan, devoted mother, loving sister, cherished aunt, and caring grandmother. She graduated from Hillsboro High School in 1973 and spent most of her life in Hillsboro, where she lovingly raised her family. She worked in the hospitality industry throughout her life, including more than a decade in the Hillsboro Independent School District’s kitchen, where she was known for her sense of humor with everyone who came through the line. She also spent many years at Carl’s Corner Truck Stop, where she enjoyed greeting familiar faces and building friendships with regulars — her favorite of all being Willie Nelson. She even kept a cowboy hat in her room, signed “Merry Christmas, Janet!” by the legendary musician himself.

She had a voice and laugh that could fill a room, a trait she kindly passed along to her two children — no one in their home was ever known for being soft-spoken. Janet loved cooking for her family, especially her son Troy, a passion she inherited from her own mother. She took great pride in being the mom of twins and adored country music — often joking that George Strait was her husband, though only after the passing of The King, her one true love.

She is lovingly remembered by her daughter, Robyn Claridy-Miga, and her grandson Eric Miga, of Austin; her sister, Bettye Grantham and partner Shane Carnes of Austin; her brothers, David Anderson, and Roger Freeman and his wife Shirley of Groesbeck; nieces, Crystal Pack, and partner Bud Harris, and daughter Jordan of Kosse, and Jessie Fetter and husband Aaron of Lewisville; Jennifer Shanklin, and daughter Lindsey of Chandler, AZ; along with cousins and friends who loved her.

Janet is now reunited in heaven with her beloved son, Troy Claridy, whom she missed so dearly; her mother, Gladys Martin; sister, Cecile Bragewitz; brother, Edward Anderson; and her loving grandparents, Edna and Henry Webb.

Janet’s memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her. Her laughter, warmth, and love of music will be remembered by her family and friends, who will continue to share stories, songs, and the joy she brought into their lives. As her beloved Elvis Presley sang, “Love me tender, love me true, always and forever, I will love you.” Janet’s love and spirit will remain with all who knew her, cherished always and never forgotten.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the nursing staff at Windsor Health Care Residence for the compassionate care and support they provided to Janet in her final days.

Visitation and a Memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 30, 2025, with visitation beginning at 10:00 and the Memorial Service at 11:00 a.m., in the Groesbeck Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Tracy Sims of the Central Baptist Church of Thornton officiating.
