Janet M. Colyer, 90, La Fontaine, passed away at 2:15 am on Monday, March 16, 2026, at Rolling Meadows Health & Rehabilitation Center in LaFontaine. She was born in Marion, Indiana, on Monday, March 16, 1936, to Samuel Shively and Ella (Kelley) Barton. On July 19, 1953, she married Russell.
Janet graduated from Gas City Schools and worked as a secretary for 17 yr years with World Gospel Mission. She was a member of Eastview Wesleyan Church where she served on the board for many years. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, and reading and even made crafts for the homeless. She loved her dog, Molly and cat, Bubba though she had a love-hate for living on the farm. She was famous for her homemade noodles. More than anything, she loved her family and being around them.
Survivors include her sons, Russell "Russ" (Tina) Colyer of Jonesboro, Ronald "Ron" (Elaine) Colyer of Marion; daughter, Beth (Jon) Markland of Jonesboro; grandchildren, Shellie (Brian) Jennings, Judy (Scott) Jolliff, Lindsey (Gary) Porter, Ashley (James) Henderson, Wendy (Dustin) Huffman, Travis (Holli) Behr, Kiley (Jesse) Compton, Courtney (Curtis) Hackleman; great-grandchildren, Evan Jennings, Eli Jennings, Alexis (Ethan) Leach, Adriana (Lake) Ribble, Ashton Jolliff, Caleb Myers, Dillon Myers, Josiah Myers, Ian (Amelia) Myers, Trystan Levinsky, Mackenzie Henderson, David Huffman, Matthew Huffman, Ethan Huffman, Joshua Compton, Chevelle Compton, Sophia Hackleman, Boone Behr, Tate Behr; as well as 6 great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her father, Samuel Shively; mother, Ella Barton; husband, Russell Colyer; sisters, Billie Jean Frye, Patricia L. Bowling; and brother, John Shively; great-grandchildren Hayleigh Huffman and Malachi Hackleman
The family will receive visitors from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Thursday, March 19, 2026, as well as 1 hour prior to the service on Friday at 12:00 pm at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral & Cremation Service, Storey Chapel, 400 E. Main St, Gas City, IN.
A Funeral Service to celebrate Janet's life will be held at 1:00 pm on Friday, March 20, 2026, at the funeral home with Rev. Mark Atkinson officiating. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery.
