Janet Dayhoff Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A. - Cumberland on Feb. 6, 2026.
Janet Arlene (Plunkert) Dayhoff, 90, of Cumberland, passed into the loving arms of her Lord and Savior on Thursday, February 5, 2026, at Allegany Health Nursing and Rehabilitation, Cumberland.

She shared 66 wonderful years of marriage with the love of her life, Reverand David Franklin Dayhoff, until his death in August 2023. Their life together was rooted in a commitment to God's calling to ministry and marked by a deep love for people, their church, their family and each other.

Janet was born in Hanover, PA, to Claude H. and Treva R. (Warner) Plunkert, the third of ten children. She was also preceded in death by her parents and five of her siblings: Robert Plunkert, Melvin Plunkert, John Plunkert, Vonetta (Plunkert) Felch and Linda (Plunkert) Rebert.

She is survived by three sons, Davis & wife Wilma, LaVale, Marcus & wife Leticia, Placentia, CA, and Jairus & wife Laura, Medina, OH; Grandchildren: Tasha, David & wife Rebekah, Ryan & wife Amanda, Amanda, Aaron, Brooke, Kyia, Caleb and Vivian; and Great-Grandchildren: Avana, Ethan, Davis Rock, Jill, and Oziah. She is also survived by four siblings: Kenneth Plunkert & wife Linda, Hanover, Calvin Plunkert & wife Connie, Hanover, Ruth Parsons, Hanover, and Edith Mummert & husband Ronald, Hanover.

Janet was a loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother to all of her family. Her passing leaves a big hole in the family circle. To her church, she was an active and involved pastor's wife, teaching Sunday School, playing the organ, and filling in wherever there was a need. She especially had a heart for kids and was loved by generations of children for her warmth and caring.

Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Avenue, Cumberland, on February 11, 2026 from 5 to 7 pm.

A funeral service will be conducted at the Bethel Church of Nazarene, 11720 Valley Rd NE, Cumberland, on February 12, 2026 at 12 pm, with Rev. David C. Dayhoff officiating. Friends will be received at the church one hour prior to the service.

Interment will be in Restlawn Memorial Gardens, Cash Valley Road, LaVale, MD

The family would like to express their appreciation for the professional and compassionate care provided to our mother by the staff of Allegany Health Nursing and Rehabilitation.
