The world lost a shining star when Janet Eure, 67 of Gatesville, NC went to her forever home peacefully on Wednesday, March 4, 2026. She was surrounded by her loving children and her dedicated husband.
Born in Chesapeake, VA on September 12, 1958, Janet was the daughter of the late Bruce Whichard Sr. and surviving mother whom she cherished, Shirley Whichard. For the majority of her life Janet grew up in Gates County, NC, where she met the love of her life, Donnie Eure of Gatesville where they resided and built a family for 47 years.
Janet will always be remembered as a devoted wife and mother. She was a cherished friend whose sense of humor could light up a room with laughter. She was known for cooking enough for the neighborhood and if you ever stopped by, you had to at least eat a hot dog before leaving. Her home was welcoming to all that entered it. She was devoted to caring for her elderly mother and they both counted on one another. If Janet didn’t cook it, Nanny did.
Her grandbabies were her pride and joy and she never missed a chance of stepping up to care for them when needed. She loved them as well as her family fiercely.
Survivors include her husband, Donnie Eure, three children, Michael Eure, Nicole Eure (Travis), and Brittany Askew (Carter); her five grandbabies, Evan Eure, Eric Eure, Bryson Askew, the twins, Madelyn Askew and Brock Askew, who were born on Janet’s birthday; a sister, Cheryl Ricks (Roy); and two brothers, Bruce Whichard Jr. and Keith Whichard.
The family will greet everyone from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 7, 2026 at the Miller & Van Essendelft Funeral Home, Gatesville, N.C.
A celebration of life for Janet will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 8, 2026 at Eure Christian Church with Pastor Wade Bennett and Mr. Ray Felton officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family invites loved ones for reception in the church fellowship hall immediately following the committal service.
