SALISBURY - Janet D. Flaherty, 90, of Washington DC, died peacefully at the Tawes Nursing Home in Crisfield, Maryland on Saturday, January 20, 2024. Janet moved From Washington to Salisbury, Maryland in 2019 and later to Crisfield, Maryland in July 2023.

Janet attended the former Woodrow Wilson High School in Washington and later went on to the Johns Hopkins School of Nursing. Specializing in psychiatric nursing, Janet returned to Hopkins to teach Medical Ethics and Humanism with Dr. Ira Morris, MD. She later continued her career at Walter Reed, Suburban, Adventist, and Saint Elizabeth's hospitals in Washington where she worked with both students and patients in the areas of psychiatric nursing.

Janet had a great passion for people and was able to touch the lives of many people during her life. She had a beloved family and many dear friends. She was especially fond of her three faithful caretakers, Amy Reigner, Virginia Perez and Annette Morgan. Her mind was sharp and her memory remained keen until her death, allowing her to recall and smile about happy memories with all of them.

Surviving family members include Kevin Flaherty, and his wife, Tess of Dallas, Texas, Stephen Flaherty, and his wife, Lee Ann of Crisfield, Maryland, Gail Flaherty of Annapolis, Maryland and Cynthia Julyan, and her husband, Mark of Easton, Maryland. She was also blessed with three grandchildren, Courtney Hurley and husband, Rob of Salisbury, Brooks Flaherty of Salisbury and Charlie Scott of Denver, Colorado.

Janet loved her family dearly and rejoices in knowing that she will see them all again.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, March 14, 2024 at 11am at St. Albans Episcopal Church, 3001 Wisconsin Ave NW, Washington, DC where Janet was a member.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Tawes Rehabilitation and Nursing Home, 201 Hall Highway, Crisfield, MD 21817 in thanks for their compassion and care during her stay there.
