Janet Sue Freels, 88, of Indianapolis, passed away May 5th, 2024. She was born in Indianapolis November 7th, 1935, to parents Elmer and Sarah (Strauser) Fordyce.

Janet grew up in Indianapolis where she completed her education and worked as a data entry specialist for many years before retiring.

She married the love of her life, Manuel Freels. They shared 45 wonderful years together. Manuel passed away August, 2011.

Janet was a nurturing, kind woman. She was very patient, and saw the best in everybody. She and Manuel loved to travel and traveled all around the country in their RV. Her faith was very important to her, and Janet loved going to church. A devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and even great-great-grandmother, Janet was heavily involved in her families’ lives.

She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Janet is survived by her children Carlos “Jake” Burwell, Russell Burwell, Carol “Suzie” Smith, and Marilyn Cummings; eight grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and several great-great grandchildren; and sister Nancy Hart.  

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Manuel, her son Danny Burwell, and her siblings Phyllis, Artie, Keith, and Steve.

Visitation for Janet will be Tuesday, May 14th, at Flanner Buchanan Washington Park East, from 1-3pm. Her service will begin at 3pm.

She will be laid to rest at Washington Park East Cemetery.
