Janet Marelene (Catterson) Gassner, of Hermitage, passed away peacefully on August 28, 2025 after a short illness.

Janet had just celebrated her 91st birthday surrounded by family. Up until the end, Janet maintained her kindness, compassion, love of family and friends, and expressed gratitude for her long life, full of wonderful and varied experiences.

Born August 17, 1934 in Mercer, she was a daughter of Earl R. and Margaret E. (Buxton) Catterson. She graduated from Mercer Area High School in 1952. She married her beloved husband of 69 years, Martin C. Gassner, on May 11, 1956. Janet worked for the Penn Power company as a clerk and at Mother's Day Out as a pre-school teacher.

Most of all, Janet was a loving wife and a homemaker for her two children. She enjoyed vacationing at the beach and attending her grandchildren's activities. She was a collector of Willow Tree angles and ceramic pigs. She was an avid reader and liked to watch QVC. She was a lifelong member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She was also a long time member of Hickory United Methodist Church.

She is survived by her husband, Martin, two children, Randy (Robin) Gassner, Michele (Brian) Nespor, and grandchildren Ryan (Erica) Gassner, Sara Gassner, Danielle Nespor, and Cody Nespor.

In addition to her parents, Janet was preceded in death by her two sisters, Shirley Warner and Delores (Kevin) O'Neill.

In accordance with her wishes, no funeral services will be held. A private burial will take place.

Messages of sympathy, stories and photos can be shared on Janet's memorial page, at: www.flynnfuneralhome.com.
