NISKAYUNA – Janet Schaaff Goot, a resident of Niskayuna, died on September 14, 2025 at Schenectady Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s disease.
Janet was born on March 10, 1939 in Niskayuna to Joseph and Catherine McDermott Schaaff. Janet graduated from Nott Terrace High School. She worked at Prudential Insurance Company for nearly 35 years, retiring in 1997.
Janet married Donald Asa Goot on Aug. 26, 1972. She was the mother of Michael Joseph Goot. After her retirement, she and Donald enjoyed going on trips including a couple of cruises and a train ride across much of the country.
Janet enjoyed reading and watching basketball in her free time.
Janet was a communicant of Saint Kateri Tekakwitha Parish, formerly St. Helen’s Church, where she was a Eucharistic minister for many years.
She is survived by her husband Donald, son Michael and daughter-in-law Katie, grandson Alexander, sister Catherine Reed (Donald) and many nephews and nieces.
Janet is predeceased by her parents and her brother Robert Schaaff.
Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, September 23 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 343 New Karner Road in Colonie. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Wednesday, September 24 at 9am at Saint Kateri Tekakwitha Parish at 1803 Union St. in Niskayuna.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
