Janet Hadley, age 94, of Union, IA, passed away Sunday, August 31, 2025 at the Hubbard Care Center in Hubbard, IA.

Janet Nadine (Wierson) Hadley was born on February 8, 1931 on the family farm South of Radcliffe, Iowa. She was one of five children born to Milt and Emelia (Valland) Wierson. She was baptized and confirmed at the Salem Lutheran Church Southwest of Radcliffe.

She attended country school and graduated from Radcliffe High School. She then attended Iowa State Teacher's College, receiving a teaching certificate. She proceeded to teach second grade at New Providence Community School. While living in New Providence, she met Jay Hadley. They married on July 2, 1950 at the Waverly Lutheran Church, Waverly, Iowa. Jay was drafted into the U.S. army and served for two years. When he returned in March of 1953, Jay and Jan started farming Southeast of New Providence. The fall of 1963, Jay and Jan moved with their family to the Bruce Hadley farm near Union, Iowa. Janet was a devoted farm wife and mother. She enjoyed cooking delicious meals for hired men and tending to her beautiful gardens. In 1985, Janet became the Activity Director at the Villa del Sol in Marshalltown, Iowa. She excelled in this role and received Activity Director of the Year for the state of Iowa in 2003. Janet retired in 2005. Following retirement, Janet poured her energy to baking for friends and family, spending time with her grandchildren and her devotion to the Union Community Church. After Jay's death in 2015, Janet remained on the farm until she moved to Timberland Village in the spring of 2018.

Janet passed peacefully into the arms of Jesus on August 31, 2025, surrounded by family. She received excellent care by the loving and devoted staff of the Hubbard Care Center.

Survivors include her four children, daughters Jayne Leerberg (Gene) of Hubbard, Jean Barkema (Ron) of Hubbard, Nancy Hauser (Brent) of State Center, and son Ray Hadley of Marshalltown. Her grandchildren Christian Leerberg (Jen Milack), Heidi Brinkmeyer (Ben), Erika Holmes (Garrick Bell), Joshua Dubberke (Haley), Stephanie Brecht (Philip), Jeremy Barkema, Dena Leerberg (Jon Flynn), Jason Dubberke (Christina), Emelia Hauser, Kate Hauser, Olivia Hauser, and William Hauser. Her great-grandchildren include Benjamin, Annabel, Conner, Jack, Mary Margaret, Grace, Barrett, Evelyn, Henry, Hadley, Emma, Wyatt, Maverick, Hendrix, Sophia and Alexandria. Janet is also survived by sister-in-law, Coletta Wierson, brother-in-law and sister-in-law Neil and Alice Hadley, brother-in-law and sister-in-law Robert and Karla Holveck and many nieces and nephews.

Janet was proceeded in death by her husband, Jay, her parents, siblings Grace, Thelma, Maxine and their spouses, and brother Wallace. She was also proceeded in death by her in-laws, Bernard and Noma Hadley, brother-in-law Gary Hadley, infant brother, Orlen, and infant great-granddaughter Isabella Grace Dubberke.
