She was born on December 12, 1941 to William and Lillian Koskela in Duluth, Minnesota. She was raised in Floodwood, Minnesota. Janet attended Floodwood High School and served in the Army from 1959 to 1963. Janet married George Hamel on September 4, 1965 in Vancouver, Washington. She made her marital home in Newberg for 53 years. She retired as a Hairdresser/Beautician in 1988.
Janet enjoyed baking goodies and was a master gardener. Janet was preceded in death by her parents; brothers Floyd Koskela, Richard Koskela; sisters Susan Koskela and Alice Endicott. She is survived by her son Mike Hamel; daughters Teresa Hamel, Angel Gonzales Jones; sisters Marrian Holmes, Darlene Miller, Barbara Morris, Terri Milholm; brother Will Koskela; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
A Graveside Service will be held on September 17, 2022 at 11am at Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery. A Celebration of Life will immediately follow at the First Presbyterian Church, Newberg, Oregon.

My deepest sympathies to all of Janet´s family and friends. I always enjoyed visiting with her when she would come to Minnesota. My family also went to visit her family back in the fall of 1978. I always thought of Janet as one of the prettiest ladies in our family (as you know, we have a huge family, and it includes numerous pretty ladies)! We are so Blessed with such a large family that really tries to keep in touch, and love each other. Janet and my dad, Warren Johnson, are first cousins. I´m sure he welcomed her to Heaven to join all the others that have gone before us. May all your memories bring you comfort, and bring a smile to your face, as we grieve our loss. Janet will be missed by all who knew her. May she rest in God´s eternal Peace.
