Janet Roper Jackson

August 12, 1949 - February 16, 2026

By Fred Jackson

Jan and I were happily married for 55 years. She was my best friend and partner.

She enjoyed our time in Gastonia where she blossomed in philanthropy. Great passion to help others, always extra cash in her purse to help those in need.

A master at practicing random acts of kindness.

She loved flowers and gardens and became a master gardener. A passionate supporter of the Arts, The Stowe Botanical Garden, Holy angels and many more charitable organizations. Her laughter and smile warmed every room she was in.

We retired to Debordieu Colony in 2020. The French translation for "Debordieu" is "border land to God". It offered a lifestyle we love so much; ocean breezes, beautiful wildlife, nature trails, spectacular sunrises & sunsets and fishing & golf. Of course, Jan added a backyard garden.

Jan Jackson loved her community and gave selflessly to it. She worked actively to support the Gaston Literacy Council, Boys & Girls Club of Greater Gaston, Holy Angels, the United Methodist Association for Rehabilitation, the Gaston Community Foundation, and many other good causes. From 2009-2014, she served on the Gaston Community Foundation Board. Kind, smart, funny, and always wanting to help the less fortunate, Jan Jackson embodied generosity in action. We will miss her warm smile, cheerful spirit, and caring example.

--Richard Rankin, Gaston Community Foundation President
