Janet Keune Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Walnut Lawn Funeral Home - Springfield on Jan. 28, 2026.
Janet Faye Keune (née Sikes), age 74, passed away peacefully on January 27, 2026, in Springfield, Missouri.

Born on June 12, 1951, in Humansville, Missouri, Janet grew up in nearby Bolivar and graduated from Bolivar High School. Her early years in the Ozarks instilled in her a deep appreciation for nature and family-values that would remain central throughout her life.

On May 24, 1969, Janet married Gerald Keune, beginning a lifelong partnership rooted in love and devotion. Together they built a family that brought her immense joy and pride. Though Gerald preceded her in death, their bond remained a guiding light in her life.

Janet was a devoted mother to Alicia Chritton and Michael Keune. She welcomed Michael's wife Kimberly into the family with warmth. Her role as grandmother brought her great happiness; she cherished time spent with Rowan Chritton, Anthony Fredrick, Ashley Stidham, and Joshua Keune. Her legacy continues through eight great-grandchildren who brought sparkle to her later years. She also held close ties with many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A passionate bird watcher and avid gardener, Janet found peace among blooming flowers and fluttering wings. Her yard was always adorned with vibrant perennial varieties-especially clematis plants that she nurtured year after year. These quiet joys reflected her gentle spirit and love for the natural world.

Though she loved spending time with family, Janet became more reserved after the passing of her beloved husband, Gerald. His loss weighed heavily on her heart and made large gatherings more difficult for her to attend. Still, the love she held for her family never wavered.

Janet was known as a homebody at heart-happy to venture out during the day but always eager to return home by sunset. Her home was her sanctuary: a place filled with memories, blooming flowers outside the window, and birdsong echoing through the trees.

She was preceded in death by her husband Gerald Keune; son-in-law Gabriel Chritton; father Marvin Leroy Sikes; and mother Mary Lee Sikes (Beason).

May Janet's memory bring comfort to those who knew and loved her.
