UTICA - From the arms of her daughters, Cathy and Norma, to those of the Blessed Mother, Janet C. (Mozloom) Massoud passed away on Friday, October 10, 2025.
Born in Pottsville, PA, on November 20, 1933, Veronica Janet Mozloom was the youngest daughter of the late John and Teresa (Ferris) Mozloom. She graduated from Pottsville Catholic High School, Pottsville, PA. Among other positions, she worked, as a bookkeeper, for the Philip VanHeusen Corporation and the Beacon Loan Company, in Pottsville, PA, until she met the love of her life, George J. Massoud, from Utica, NY.
Janet and George were joined in marriage on August 22, 1964, at St. Louis Gonzaga Maronite Catholic Church in Utica, NY. Shortly thereafter, they became the proud parents of four beautiful children: Veronica J. Telaro, Catherine F. Massoud, George J. Massoud, Esq. (Jena) and Norma T. Tehan (David). Janet held the fort while her husband worked at Bendix and Massoud's Oud Lounge, the family restaurant and banquet center. George preceded her in death on December 5, 2011.
Janet demonstrated her unconditional love for her children by spending countless hours, on bleachers, attending their many events. She ardently attended every hockey, softball and baseball game, bowling tournament, concert, recital or drama event attended by her grandchildren; she was always there, no matter what. She was a member of the New Hartford Youth Hockey Association and the Notre Dame Booster Club, where she assisted in raising thousands of dollars by tirelessly volunteering her time to Notre Dame Bingo.
She delighted in simple things - enjoying an ice cream while being a back seat driver through the mountains, making holiday meals, canning and preserving the mountains of vegetables from George's garden and being inventive in stuffing a squash in many ways, earning the nickname, "Kousa." She entertained us by telling stories of her adventurous youth, passing on her pearls of wisdom. Above all, she loved caring for those she loved, doing ""God's work.""
As a devout, dedicated Catholic and a renowned member of the St. Louis Gonzaga Maronite Catholic Church, Janet shared her faith through years of teaching religious education, presiding over St. Mary's Guild and singing in the church choir with her beautiful voice. Her ""Ave Maria"" brought tears to your eyes and was requested by hundreds of brides through the years, passing that torch to her granddaughter, Mary. Janet's strong moral compass, paired with her deep faith and love for the Blessed Mother, sustained her throughout her life. Always with rosary beads in hand, her advice to loved ones was, ""Take it to the beads!""
In addition to her children, Janet is survived by her grandchildren, Joseph A. Massoud, Mary M. and Robert D. Tehan, Jolianne, Kristina and Jonathan Ray; sister, Marie Barber, of Sewell, NJ; and brother, John "Jack" Mozloom, of Hamilton, NJ. She is also survived by her in-laws, Ann B. and Caleb A. George, PhD., Joseph T. Massoud, Anthony J. "Omar" Massoud, Judith (Kinney) Massoud, William Lafferty and Kamleh Tehan. She also leaves her nieces, Madeleine and Ann Marie Barber, Teresa Marie Murray and Teresa Ann Joseph, who were her ""other daughters"", along with other nieces and nephews; great-nieces and nephews; and great-great nieces and nephews who have known her incredible capacity for love, adoration and generosity.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, George; brothers, Vincent (Dorothy) Mozloom, Francis (Lola) Mozloom and Thomas Mozloom; sisters, Anna (John) Joseph, Gloria (Joseph) DeMarkis and Norma T. Mozloom; and in-laws, Joseph and Catherine (Nazick) Massoud, John "Abby" Massoud, Edna T. Lafferty, Bernadette and James L. Davis, Jr., Catherine (Kay) and Joseph Tamer and Grace Mozloom.
The family is forever grateful to her beautiful friends, Mary Zogby, Maria Nitti, Marsha Shahoud, Mary McReynolds, Nancy Babrowicz, Joan Massoud, Josette Fontaine and so many others, for the companionship and laughter they shared throughout the years.
