Janet Mathias Obituary

Janet Lee Mathias, 82, of Finksburg died January 28, 2026 at her home. Born May 1, 1943 in Finksburg, she was the daughter of the late William T. Brothers and Genive Dutterer Brothers. Her husband Herbert G. Mathias III died September 9, 2005. She graduated from Westminster High School. Before retiring she worked for the Social Security Administration. Janet was a lifelong and very active member at Sandy Mount United Methodist Church. She was a part of the outreach committee, bazaar, did seasonal decorations for the church, helped with communion during services, hosted any bereavement held there, and always was there if anyone needed help. She enjoyed bird watching, gardening, crafting and was an avid Ravens and Orioles fan. Survived by her son Matthew J. Mathias (Karie); 4 grandchildren Meghan, Joshua, Zachary and Sadie Mathias; sister-in-law's and brother-in-law's Mayumi Brothers, Deb and Sam Mathias and Tom Mathias; nieces and nephews Jimmy, John, Scott, Andrea, Julie and Jason. Also survived by numerous great nieces and great nephews. She was also predeceased by her brother William "Bill" Oscar Brothers and her nephew Tommy Brothers. Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday February 7, 2026 at Sandy Mount United Methodist Church, 2101 Old Westminster Pike, Finksburg, MD., 21048 with Reverend Robert Wellman officiating. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in her name to Sandy Mount United Methodist Church.
