Janet Eileen Mullen nee Pitcavage, 78, of Vero Beach, Florida, passed away peacefully on May 6, 2024, surrounded by her loved ones.
Janet was born on July 3, 1945 to John and Bertha Pitcavage in Shenandoah, PA. In 1947, Janet and her parents moved to the Germantown, PA area, where her three sisters Linda, Susan and Anita were born. In 1957, the family moved to Berlin, NJ, where they built the foundation of their lives and the girls grew up. Janet graduated from Edgewood High School in 1963.
Janet met her husband John Mullen at an optical store where she worked on Chestnut Street in Philadelphia, PA. John didn't need glasses then, but he just had to meet her. They were married in 1971 in Berlin, N.J., and had one child, Christopher, her pride and joy, in 1972. The family moved to Medford, NJ in 1980, where they planted their roots
In the 1980's, Janet co-owned a successful local catering business. In the 1990's, She helped her husband, John build and run Court House Legal Services in Cherry Hill, NJ, now owned by their son, Christopher.
Janet, known for her competitive streak, was an avid tennis player and formidable opponent in any type of trivia or board game. Well-known for her superior cooking and hostessing, loved ones recall her family dinners, crab fests and delicious signature dishes over the years. She was also a huge fan of the Philadelphia Eagles, Phillies and Clemson Tigers.
Janet was predeceased by her parents, John and Bertha Pitcavage. She is survived by her husband of 53 years, John; son, Christopher and daughter-in-law Sarah; her sisters, Linda (Bill Goldberg), Susan (Victor Mizzone), and Anita Pitcavage; Linda and Bill's children Jeffery Goldberg (Colleen), Becky (Nathan Collins), and Jonathan Goldberg (Amanda); Susan and Victor's children, Casey Mizzone (Kristine) and Jesse Saveri (Christopher). A small service will be held at the family home in Florida. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Janet's name to the VNA Hospice House, 901 37th Street, Vero Beach, Florida, 32960.
