Janet (Tambara) Nunamaker, 78, of Hood River, Oregon, passed away peacefully on September 17, 2025.
Janet was born on September 10, 1947, in Hood River, Oregon, to Yoriaki and Kikue (Suzuki) Tambara. She grew up in the Hood River Valley where her family owned an orchard in Parkdale.
She met her husband, Don Nunamaker, while working at an insurance office across the street from his real estate business in downtown Hood River. They were married for more than 50 years, until Don's passing in 2021. Throughout their life together, Janet contributed to the family's real estate business, working behind the scenes and offering support wherever it was needed.
Janet stayed connected to her family orchard by helping with the books and often driving up to the orchard early each morning during harvest. At home, she enjoyed working in her garden, especially with her flowers. Janet loved to read, especially any book written by Danielle Steel. Anyone that visited the beach house would see the "library" and soon realize all the books were romance novels. Janet had read all of them. She also loved to spend her time cross-stitching.
Family was at the center of Janet's life. She was a loving mother to her 2 daughters, Alison and Ashley. Whatever the girls were into Janet was always there to support. She was also "Nannie" to six grandchildren: Kenadie, Drew, Rylie, Hadlie, Alexa and Aliyah. She treasured her role as their grandmother and the time they shared together. Nannie was always there to be with each of them as they spent time in the office or at her home. If the kids were around that is where you would find her. Oftentimes in the middle of a craft or playing on the floor with them.
Beyond her role as a wife and mother, Janet gave generously of her time to her community. She was a proud and longtime member of the Hood River Soroptimist Club, where she worked on projects to support women and families. She also served on the board of the Gorge Community Foundation, helping ensure resources were available to strengthen the community she loved so dearly.
She is survived by her brother, Terry Tambara (Parkdale),her daughter Alison Nunamaker, son in-law Mychal Lucas, daughter Ashley Nunamaker-Bello, son in-law Isidro Bello and her 6 beautiful grandchildren Kenadie Lucas (17), Drew Lucas (15), Rylie Lucas (13), Hadlie Lucas (10), Alexa Bello (12) and Aliyah Bello (9).
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Nunamaker Family Fund at the Gorge Community Foundation, honoring Janet's legacy of family and community. Donations can be made through the website: https://gorgecf.org/
A service to celebrate Janet's life will be held at Anderson's Tribute Center in Hood River on Thursday, Oct. 2, 2025, at 1:00 p.m., with a reception to follow.
