Janet Marie Woodworth Putney

Janet Marie Woodworth Putney, 77, of Bedford passed away on Friday, February 2, 2024, at her residence. She was born in Virginia on December 19, 1946. She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert Alexander Walker and Virginia Louise Holland Walker and brother, Bobby Walker.

Janet was an active member of Bedford Baptist Church. She had a special place in her heart for animals and would take in any dog or cat and give them a home. Janet had a passion for fashion, working at a few department stores, modeling, and doing personal shopping. She also had a special decorating flair and was active in the Bedford PTO and Garden Club. Over the years, she and Macon enjoyed traveling all over Europe and the Caribbean. Above all, she loved spending time with her family at the Outer Banks beach house. She will be missed by all.

She is survived by her husband, Macon Cobb Putney; children, Ann Putney Thompson and husband, Kris and John Putney and wife, Jennifer; grandchildren, Graham, Eliza, Macon, and Kemper; sister, Sue Holdren; brother, Bill Walker (Janie Arrington) and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Bedford Humane Society or Samaritan’s Purse, Operation Christmas Child.

A celebration of Janet’s life will be held at 12 noon on Thursday, February 8, 2024, at Tharp Funeral Chapel, Bedford, with the Rev. Michael Khol officiating. The family will receive friends starting one hour prior to the service.
