Janet Richter Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory from Mar. 9 to Mar. 10, 2026.
Janet Beth (Lindsey) Richter, age 70, of Dubuque, IA, passed away on the morning of Tuesday, March 3, 2026.

A visitation will be held Saturday, March 14, 2026, from 1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. at Hope Church, 11893 JFK Road, Dubuque. A short Celebration of life will be held at 2:30 p.m.

Janet was born on September 12, 1955, in Lake County IL. The daughter of George "Hank" and Marion (Pearson) Lindsey. She graduated from North Chicago High School class of 1973 and received a Bachelor of Science degree in Communications from Southern Illinois University.

She was a self-employed "Residential Maintenance Engineer" for over 30 years and also worked at Sundown Mountain in Dubuque for the last six years, taking pride in helping to keep Sundown "Janet-tized". Janet put her heart into her work to serve and love others well.

Janet was always faithful at finding a local church in the various places she lived; including First Christian Church in Waukegan, IL, Immanuel Church in Gurnee, IL, Hope Church in Dubuque, IA, and most recently Veritas Church in Dubuque, IA. She was loved by all for her magnetic personality that could light up the room and her huge heart that was ALWAYS willing to help anyone she saw who was in need.

Janet was the epitome of a passage in the Gospel of Mathew which says, "And the King will answer and say to them, 'Truly I say to you, to the extent that you did it to one of these brothers of Mine, even the least of them, you did it to Me." (Mathew 25:40, New American Standard). She never hesitated to serve a need for family, friends, or a stranger who needed genuine help, or just a genuine hug, and wanted to show the love of Jesus Christ to everyone.

Anyone who met her instantly got a sense of the loving feistiness that characterized her. Her favorite hobby was gardening, even keeping plants in her living room. She loved the theatre and was an active member of the Waukegan Community Players.

Her heart was always on the water though, which led to her love for sailing and even competing in races with the Waukegan Yacht Club. She could confidently be found singing, dancing, reading, or having an adventure.

Janet is survived by her son, Reggie (Hannah) Richter, granddaughters, Nora and Ruby Richter.

She is preceded in death by her mother, Marion (Pearson) Lindsey at 61 years old, on June 29, 1985, and her brother, Kenny Lindsey, at 43 years old, on June 7, 1995.

If led to make a memorial donation in Janet's name, her family asks that they be made to The Art Institute of Chicago, or Sundown Mountain in Dubuque, IA .

Janet's life can be summarized by her favorite verse: "Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in Heaven." Mathew 5:16, New American Standard
