Janet Shea Obituary

It's with a heavy heart that the family of Janet Louise Shea, born on February 5, 1954, in Shelby, Montana to Donald and Frankie Shea, passed away peacefully on July 17, 2025, in Juneau, Alaska with her loved ones by her side.

Janet graduated in 1972 from Thomas Jefferson High School in Federal Way, WA. At 21 yrs of age she moved to and fell in love with Alaska. She married and went on to build a family and also her career with the State of Alaska-Bureau of Vital Statistics, where she retired after 30 yrs.

In her younger days, Janet had a love for sports and was an active bowler and basketball player, competing in leagues for both. She remained a passionate sports fan throughout her life, spending many winters cheering at JDHS basketball games. Janets favorite, what she really loved was fishing with her partner James out on their boat. Janet also had a love for scrapbooking, making cards for family, baking, and spending time with her family.

Janet had a gift for connecting with people. She truly cared about you when she asked how you were doing and genuinely loved to make others laugh and smile. Janet left a lasting impression on everyone who had the joy of knowing her. She will be remembered for her generous heart, kindness, smile and her deep love for family, and friends. Janet will be missed beyond measure, she was the best Mom, partner and Nana we could have asked for.
Janet is survived by her partner of 25 yrs, James Samato; her children: Shelley Wallace, Cristina Brown (Eric), Melanie Zirkle (Derek), Kerry Clayton (Randy), and Vanessa Brown; her cherished grandchildren, brothers Mike, Dan & Jim Shea, along with many nieces, nephews, and friends who loved her dearly.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, September 5th at 1:00 p.m. at Chapel by the Lake in Juneau, Alaska. A reception will be held onsite after the service. All who knew and loved Janet are welcome to attend and celebrate her life.

I worked with Janet when I first started my career with the State of Alaska. She was so wonderful to work with, always patient, always genuine, and above all, always kind. My condolences to your family. May her memories always bring warmth to your hearts.

I met Janet in Junior High School and we graduated together from Thomas Jefferson High School in 1972. We maintained our friendship until her passing. We spent a lot of time together doing many things. I moved to Juneau in 1973 and asked Janet to join me in Juneau. She joined me and fell in love with Juneau where we were roomates and both worked for the State of Alaska. After 3 years in Juneau I decided to return to Washington and Janet stayed and continued her work with the State and built a life in Juneau. She raised her wonderful girls in Juneau and made many trips to Washington to visit family and friends. I was able to return to Juneau in September of 2024 and got to spend some very special time with her. Her passing was a great loss to me and I will always treasure the memories we made and the many years of friendship we were blessed with. A special thank you to her girls for sharing her with me. Sending love and hugs to each of them. RIP, Janet, until we meet again.

Janet Shea, our lifelong sweetheart of a daughter, sister, mother and family care provider.
You never forgot a birthday or Father´s Day when it came to family. Family was always first.
Brand new mail delivered with your return address always made me smile first and then tear-up. Thank you Janet for always remembering us, your brothers: Birthdays, Valentines Day, Fathers Day and Christmas. You remembered us. You spent a lot on stamps and cards and caring, sweet words. Thank you SWEET sister.

Those who knew you also knew - and will never forget - your tender and generous heart. You left us far too soon. We know Our Savior has welcomed you home and that you are free of all discomfort, worry and pain.
We will forever love, miss and remember your endlessly tender, caring and gentle heart. I love you sister Janet
Forever,
Brother Michael
