Janet Strait Obituary
Janet Ann Strait, the daughter of Juddy E. Freed and Javene (Oliver) Freed, was born February 24, 1936 in rural Rydal, Kansas, and passed away on December 7, 2025 at Republic County Hospital-ISB at the age of 89.
Janet grew up and attended the local public schools near Republic, Kansas and later graduated from Scandia High School. She was united in marriage to Gene Strait on February 27, 1954 and to this union was born: Mike, Terry, Danita, and Javena.
The couple lived in Scandia and Janet assisted with farming and was a homemaker. She also enjoyed gardening.
Janet was preceded in death by her parents, Juddy and Javene Freed; her husband, Gene Strait in 2008; and grandsons, Dan Strait and Kyle Strait.
Janet is survived by 2 sons, Mike Strait of Belleville, KS and Terry Strait of Scandia, KS; two daughters, Danita Freed and Javena Strait both of Scandia, KS; grandchildren, Clinton Strait, Aaron Strait, Michelle Lindberg, Kajsa Sharples, and Kale Freed; great grandchildren, Spencer Lindberg, Alivia Lindberg, Bennett Lindberg, Holden Lindberg, Addlynn Strait, Elsie Strait, Karma Sharples, Parker Sharples, Karsyn Sharples, Anthony Freed and Holly Schendt; one brother, Larry Freed of Bismarck, North Dakota; other relatives, and friends.
Private family services will be held at the Bachelor-Surber Funeral Home, Scandia, Kansas on Thursday, December 11, 2025 with burial to follow at the Riverview Cemetery, Scandia, Kansas with Waylon Sheetz, officiating.
No visitation or viewing is planned for the public.
Memorials are suggested to the Republic County Hospital-ISB, Belleville, Kansas and may be mailed to Bachelor-Surber, P.O, Box 326, Belleville, KS 66935.
