Janey Hilda Young

Mrs. Janey Hilda Young, age 89, of McMinnville, TN passed away on Sunday, January 18, 2026. She was born on June 08, 1936 and was a member of Newtown The Baptist Church of Christ. She was a devoted seamstress by heart and made all of her children's clothes as they were growing up. Her talent extended beyond her home as she also worked in manufacturing, and was privileged to sew Minnie Pearl's iconic gingham aprons for Opryland- a testament for her skill and pride in her work. She is preceded in death by her parents Hershel Poss and Barbara Carmean Cantrell Poss, husband Elmer Lewis Young whom she married on Christmas Day in 1952, brothers Reed Poss and Melvin Poss, sister Elizabeth Regan, and granddaughter Jennifer Ayers.

Survivors include her children Debbie (Buford) Ayers, Michael (Shelia) Young, and Trent (Shelli) Young, grandchildren Bryan Ayers, Brad (Taylor) Ayers, Christy (Paul) Harris, Kayla (Tyler) Griffin, Lucas (Allyson) Young, Chad (Tara) Young, Misty (Matt) Jones, and Sarah (Micheal) Walters, great grandchildren Haley, Kacie, Serenity, Lorelai, Raya, Condy, Ellie, Bo, Collins, Jessie, Alli, Ashton, Maggie, Kreed, Oddy, Breanna, and Natalie, great-great grandchild Saylor Ray, brother Harold Poss, sisters Opal (Lewis) Land and Donna (Butch) Young, and numerous nieces, nephews, and family friends.

Funeral service for Mrs. Janey Young is scheduled for 1:00 P.M. Wednesday, January 21, 2026 in the McMinnville Funeral Home Chapel. Dwight Knowles and Darrell Cantrell will officiate. Interment will follow at Mt. View Cemetery. The family of Mrs. Janey Young will receive friends on Tuesday from 4:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. and again on Wednesday from 10:00 A.M. until the time of service at 1:00 P.M.
