Jan Adkinson, was a member of the Jockey Club, NCHA (National Cutting Horse Association) and AQHA (American Quarter Horse Association).
From the time she was a little girl, she loved all animals but horses had her heart. She and her late husband, Ralph Adkinson, trained, bred, and showed horses of all disciplines, but mainly Cutting horses. Before Cutting horses, they used to teach 4-H Members up in Indiana on their farm and had a total of 44 students they claimed as their other kids, in the early 1970's. Jan's knowledge of breeding, and training and giving lessons to people along with her husband, was a dream job that came true with their hard work and love and passion for the adventure.
In 1981, both Ralph and Jan, had a documentary made about them on a TV show called the American Professionals. It was a very realistic way of their daily life and also shows the description of what went on between the two of them and their children each day. People can go on YouTube and look up Ralph Adkinson Cutting horses to see the documentary to this day, about Jan's life.
Recently, she had a business partner and was going to start a new adventure with Thoroughbred racing industry. Her business partner purchased a farm in Kentucky, where Jan and her two kids, Ty and Danielle were going to help her follow her dream and hopefully achieve great success with the horse racing career. That was ultimate dream job and the last on her list of things to accomplish and the name of the Farm up there is called Dream Big Racing.
Prior to Jan's passing, she made sure to tell her business partner and her kids "Don't quit". Keep going with the horses. So, as it stands right now, her wishes will be fulfilled.
Jan is such a special and an amazing lady, her legacy will live on through her children and grandchildren.
