Janice Bergstrom Obituary
June 17, 1937 - November 11, 2024
Janice "Jan" Rae Bergstrom (nee Atkinson) age 87, passed away peacefully at home in her sleep on November 11, 2024.
She was born June 17, 1937, to the late William S. and Lucille A. (Fritchen) Atkinson in Racine, Wis. Janice graduated from Horlick High School and received A Bachelor of Science degree in Sociology/Anthropology from the University of Wisconsin-Parkside.
She worked at Western Publishing for many years and was a member of the Local 223 Bookbinder's Union. As a board member of the union, she occasionally wrote articles for the Racine Labor Paper.
Janice loved to read and solve crossword puzzles. She especially loved spending time with family and had fond memories of trips taken to Northern Wisconsin.
Janice is survived by her children, JoEllen (Thomas) George, Jay (Colleen) Rieker, Julie DeBuhr-Larson, and Elizabeth Kelsey; grandchildren, Kristina (Nick) Tobias, Andrew (Wendy) George, Natalie (Daniel) Pelawa, RaeAnn (Tilmon) Williams, Erik (Lauren) Rieker, Aaron (Melissa) Rieker, Amber (Jeff) O'Brien, Lucas Larson, and Peighton (Andrew) Kelsey; over 20 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren; brother, Jack (Cindy) Atkinson; and sister-in-law, Penny Atkinson; along with many beloved nieces, nephews and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Lucille Atkinson; son, John P. Bergstrom; great-granddaughter, Savaya Larson; her brother, William (Bill) Atkinson; sister-in-law, Sandra Atkinson; beloved cousins, Judy Aschenbrenner and Darrel Bohn.
Funeral services will be held at Sturino Funeral Home on Wednesday, November 20, 2024, at 12:30 p.m. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 11 a.m. until service time at 12:30 p.m.
Janice will be laid to rest in a private ceremony at Pilgrims Home cemetery in the Town of Raymond.
