Janice Cavallin passed away Monday, May 5, 2025 at her home in Pine City at the age of 73.
Janice Kay Schrul was born February 15, 1952 to Jerome and Lorraine (Kluender) Schrul in St. Paul. She attended Central High School in St. Paul and graduated in 1970. During her senior year of high school and following graduation, she was employed at Bruce Publishing as a switchboard operator. Following that, she worked as a transcriptionist at MN Mutual Life.
In 1973, Janice met her future husband, Tom, Pine City at Cavallin Ford while she was up at her grandparents’ cabin on Cross Lake (her future home). They were married on August 16, 1975 and made their home in Pine City. She continued to commute to work at MN Mutual Life before getting a job at Pine County Courthouse. She continued this until she started the greatest job of her life-stay at home mom to her 3 kids. The kids loved having her home just as much! After the kids were in school, Janice had a few part time jobs throughout the years-helping her best friend Kathy Jahnz with daycare as well as a secretarial job at St. Mary’s School.
Janice enjoyed many trips to California with Kathy and family to see Kathy’s relatives; annual trips to Country Fest with friends; boating around Cross Lake and many trips to the cabin in Wisconsin. Some of her past times included crossword puzzles, word finds and board games-especially Mastermind and Aggravation. She also loved a good round of spoons with the grandkids! Her most favorite past time was being with her family and 6 grandchildren. She was able to do daycare for them until they were all in school. A job that you truly could not have taken away from her!
Janice will be missed greatly. She had a beautiful soul and a kind heart. She truly would have done anything to help her loved ones and would have dropped anything to be there for them.
Janice is survived by her husband of almost 50 years, Tom Cavallin; children Jean (Jesse) Broz, Brad (Dara) Cavallin, Kristin (Chris) Johnson all of Pine City; grandchildren Gavin Broz, Morgan Broz; Kensley Cavallin, Nolan Johnson, Griffin Johnson, Roman Johnson; very special friend, Kathy Jahnz of Pine City; brothers/sisters-in-law Richard Haroldson of Kiester, Richard (Sandy) Cavallin of Pine City, John (MaryJo) Cavallin of St. Croix Falls, Carol (David) Peterson of Grasston, Nance Cavallin (Jon Friedlieb) of Blaine, Ron (Julie) Cavallin of Grasston; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents Jerome and Lorraine Schrul; sister Joanne Haroldson; in-laws Lib and Mary Cavallin
