Janice Cox-Laymon Obituary

Published by Legacy on Sep. 9, 2025.
Janice Denise Cox-Laymon, age 65, of Hixson, TN, was called home to be with the Lord on September 4, 2025. Born on October 2, 1959, Janice was the daughter of the late James R. Cox and Virginia Cox.

A woman of profound faith, Janice lived her life as a testament to God's grace and love. Her unwavering belief was the cornerstone of her character, guiding her every action with kindness, thoughtfulness, and an infectious, quirky sense of humor. Her sense of humor was unlike any other-she loved a good "gotcha" moment and never failed to bring laughter to those around her. She was also a devoted collector, carried a mighty sense of justice, and could play dominoes like no other.

Janice had a remarkable gift for teaching little children about God and the Bible. With a child-like spirit of her own, she could meet them on their level in a way that felt natural and special. Children were drawn to her gentle presence, her storytelling, and her joyful singing of worship songs. Her grandchildren especially adored her for this gift. She had a unique ability to connect with each of them individually-encouraging their creativity, sharing in their passions, and being fully present in their lives. Whatever they were interested in, she found a way to join in, making each child feel seen, loved, and celebrated.

She was preceded in death by her beloved son, Jon Laymon Sr., her grandchildren, Jordan, Emmett, and Tavner, and her parents.

Janice is survived by her daughters, Brandy (Damion) Spralls and Bonnie (Jeff) Deason; grandchildren, Jon Laymon Jr., Christopher, Jeffrey (Gracie), Scarlett, Georgia, Stryker, LeeLa, and Judah. She was deeply cherished as "GahGah," "Gammal," and "Mema" by her grandchildren. She is also survived by her siblings, David Cox, Robert Cox, Deborah Cox-Pack, Teresa Cox-Kirk, and Kenny Cox, along with many nieces and nephews who knew her lovingly as Aunt Jan.

Her legacy of love, laughter, faith, and the countless lessons she imparted will live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date, with details to be announced by the family.

"Be Kind and loving to each other. Forgive each other just as God forgave you in Christ." Ephesians 4:32
