Janice Anne Elm, 83, of Toddville, Iowa, died in her home surrounded by family on Monday February 24, 2025. A visitation will be held on Friday February 28, 2025, from 4-7 p.m. at the Cedar Memorial Chapel Stateroom. A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday March 1, 2025, at 11 am at Zion Lutheran Church in Hiawatha, where a visitation will begin at 10 a.m. until service time. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Jan was born on August 29, 1941, in Webster City, Iowa, the daughter of Cecil and Anna Gramblin. Jan grew up in Webster City, Iowa and graduated from Lincoln High School in 1958. She then moved to Cedar Rapids and began working at Square D Manufacturing.
Then she married the love of her life Jerry Elm on May 8, 1960. They enjoyed 58 years together. She became self-employed with her husband, operating Elm Standard, Cedar Rapids, J & J Amoco and Elm's Auto Repair in Marion, Iowa. She kept the books for 3 business. Jan was the first female in Cedar Rapids to pump gas on the full-service drive. Jan then taught other spouses of other service station owners on how to keep books for their business. Jan raised her three children and then took a position at Cargill Corn & Starch and then retired from there.
Jan was an active member of Zion Lutheran Church. She volunteered for many committees within the church such as Zion Youth Group Counselor, Kitchen & Funeral Detail and she sang in the choir. Jan was a member of the Cedar Rapids Corvette Club. She enjoyed bowling, music and dancing and playing cards. Jan loved to entertain her family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Jerry Elm, her siblings, Betty Mae, Cecil Jr., Marvin and Gary Gramblin.
Left to cherish Jan's memories are her three children, Tony (Rhonda) Elm of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Karla Elm of Cedar Rapids, Kip (Angela Buchhop) Elm of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, her grandchildren, Tana (Brad) Carte, Darin (Maren) Elm, Jacob (Laura) Elm and Jacquelyn Elm and great grandchildren, Oliver Elm and Keziah Elm.
Her love of God and family and friends was deep and unwavering. Jan's warm heart and twinkle in her eyes embraced everyone she came across. She was blessed in that she never met a stranger. Jan was admired for her positive attitude and outlook on life. Her infectious smile and laughter encompassed her personality. Jan has requested that we focus on laughter and celebrate her life.
