Janice Ferguson Obituary
Obituary published on Legacy.com by Corey Funeral Home - Evart on Dec. 3, 2025.
Janice Marie Ferguson, 74 of Evart, never lost her spunk or her sweet smile during her short and courageous battle with cancer. On Thursday, November 27, 2025, in Grand Rapids, with her family at her side, Jan was called home to Jesus to be with her infant daughter, Amie Marie Paquette.
Jan was born in St. Clair, MI on January 12, 1951 to Marvin and Christena (Bluhm) Schlottman. In 1969 she graduated from Marine City High School and received her registered nursing degree from St. Clair Community College. She made her home in Marine City where she was a nurse at the former River District Hospital in East China, MI, before moving up north in 1990. For 20 years her selfless and slow to anger demeanor made her a favorite nurse at Reed City Hospital where she made numerous friends and met the love of her life, Bruce G. Ferguson. With her infectious smile and smarts she was one of the sweetest people he had ever met. The two were married on August 17, 2002 in Reed City. They made their home in Evart where she enjoyed gardening, feeding the birds and helping in the summer at Calvary Baptist Church with VBS.
Jan looked forward to going to Florida, cross country skiing, especially in the UP and enjoying waterfalls. She was a good cook and loved baking, mostly for her grandkids and Bruce. Jan was truly a selfless person. It will be hard to turn on the radio and hear Christmas music or see an empty bird feeder without thinking of her.
Left to treasure the memories they made with Jan are her adoring husband of 23 years, Bruce Ferguson; two sons, Scott (Joy) Paquette of Big Rapids and Nicholas "Nick" (Rachel) Paquette of Dorr; four grandchildren, Harley (Cody) DeYoung, Coltan Hughston, Kara Paquette and Jake Paquette; three siblings and their families, Richard (Glenda) Schlottman of Temecula, California, David (Mary) Schlottman of East China, and Karla (Les) Mansell of St. Clair; two step-brothers, Carl (Michelle) Weeden of East China and Jeff Weeden of Bay City. Jan is also survived by Bruce's five children and their families, numerous nieces and nephews, church family and friends.
Jan was also welcomed home by: her father, Marvin Schlottman and mother & stepdad, Christena and Jay Weeden of Reed City.
In celebration of a life well lived, a service will be held at 1PM on December 15th at Calvary Baptist, 636 N. Oak, Evart, 49631. In lieu of flowers the family is requesting memorial donations be made to Calvary Baptist for Vacation Bible School which Jan was passionate about. https://app.easytithe.com/app/giving/cbcevart
