Janice Grayned-Shutter Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Carl E. Ponds Funeral Home Inc. on Jan. 22, 2026.
Janice "Snookie" Grayned-Shutter, of Rockford, Illinois, peacefully departed this earthly life on January 18, 2026. She was born on July 26, 1947, in Decatur, Illinois, the beloved daughter of John and Nehemiah Grayned.

Janice moved to Rockford in 1961 and made it her home for over six decades. She dedicated many years of service to Warner Lambert, where she worked in food service, caring for others through her warm heart and generous spirit before retiring.

Janice was a woman of faith and attended Bethel Baptist Church. She attended West High School and carried a servants heart, always putting others before herself.

She leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories with her three daughters: Janine (Keith) Saunders, Gina Shutter-Adams, and Shelley Harris. She was a devoted grandmother to Mario, Kenny Jr., Javan, India, and Derek, who brought her endless joy.

Janice is also survived by her loving sisters: Doris (Alvin) English, Loris Favors, Denise McCallister, and Sharon Grayned; and her brothers: John Grayned Jr., Otha Grayned Sr., Richard Grayned, and Willie Grayned. She will also be fondly remembered by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and dear friends - especially her special friends, Margaret Iverson and Mattie Keyes.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters Shirley Barrett, Barbara Grayned-Triplett, Patsy Switzer, and Joan Grayned-Green; and brothers Larry Grayned and Jackie Grayned.

Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, February 2, 2026, at Carl E. Ponds Funeral Home, Inc., 200 N. Johnston Ave., Rockford, IL. Visitation will take place from 12:00 noon until the time of service.
