Janice Green Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Iles Grandview Park Chapel on Mar. 3, 2026.
With profound sorrow and enduring love, we announce the passing of Janice Marie Green, age 84, who left this world peacefully after a long and courageous journey.

Born in Des Moines, Iowa, Janice was the beloved daughter of Kenneth Austin and Reda Northway, both of whom preceded her in death. She carried throughout her life a quiet strength and a deeply compassionate heart.

Janice was a caretaker in every sense of the word. Caring for others was not simply something she did; it was who she was. She gave of herself tirelessly - offering comfort, steadiness, and unconditional love to all who needed her.

She shared her life with her beloved husband, Steven Green, who preceded her in death. Together they built a family grounded in devotion and resilience.

In recent months, Janice faced a long and difficult battle with throat cancer. She endured aggressive treatments with remarkable courage and determination, ultimately achieving remission after a very hard road. Though the fight left her body weakened, her spirit never wavered. She later passed from heart failure, leaving this world as she lived in it - surrounded by love.

Family was the center of Janice's world. She leaves behind her devoted daughters, Kelly Green and Susan Karnes, and is reunited in eternal peace with her beloved son, Duffy Green.

Her legacy continues through her cherished grandchildren - Shelby Daniels, Stephanie Karnes, Paige Tiano, and Serenity Karnes - and her treasured great-grandchildren - Jaidyn Daniels, Josh Daniels, Autymn Daniels and Violet Tiano.

She is lovingly remembered by her sister, Karen Smith, and her brother, Richard Austin. The bond they shared was rooted in a lifetime of memories - childhood laughter, shared stories, and the quiet understanding that only siblings know.

Janice treasured the time they spent together, holding close the comfort of family history and the enduring connection that never fades with time.

Though our hearts ache beyond words, we find comfort in knowing she is reunited with her parents, her husband, and her son. Along with her beloved dog Hollie - whole and at peace. The love she gave so freely remains our greatest inheritance.

Rest gently now, Mom. Your strength carried us then. Your love carries us still.

This is a song that was written by Janice's daughter Susan during her fight with cancer

Title: My Hero, My Mom

[Verse 1]

Every morning, I see your light
Even when the road gets hard to fight
Through the storms and the endless rain
You rise again, through all the pain
I've traded dreams, I've traded time
But I'd do it all just to see you shine
Every step, I'm walking near
You're the reason I'm still here

[Chorus]
You're my hero, my heart, my guide
The one who taught me to stand with pride
Every breath, every tear you face
You show me strength, you show me grace
Don't you ever feel you've cost me dreams
Loving you is worth more than it seems
I'm with you through it all, you're not alone
You're my hero, my mom, my home

[Verse 2]
I've seen you fight when the nights feel cold
Turning fear into something bold
Even when the weight is more than fair
You carry hope like it's in the air
You tell me sorry for the life I've paused
But you don't see the gift you've caused
You've given me courage I never knew
By simply being you

[Chorus]
You're my hero, my heart, my guide
The one who taught me to stand with pride
Every breath, every tear you face
You show me strength, you show me grace
Don't you ever feel you've cost me dreams
Loving you is worth more than it seems
I'm with you through it all, you're not alone
You're my hero, my mom, my home

[Bridge]
If the road gets dark, I'll light the way
I'll be your voice when you can't say
The words you need, the hope you crave
I'll be the shelter, I'll be the brave
We'll stand together, side by side
No matter how high the tide

[Chorus}
You're my hero, my heart, my guide
The one who taught me to stand with pride
Every breath, every tear you face
You show me strength, you show me grace
Don't you ever feel you've cost me dreams
Loving you is worth more than it seems
I'm with you through it all, you're not alone
You're my hero, my mom, my home

[Outro]
Through the fight, through the fear
I'll be right here year after year
You're my hero, and I hope you see
The hero you are to me
