Janice Harman Obituary

Burlington - With love and gratitude for her 92 years of life, we announce the passing of our mother, grandmother, and friend, Janice Marie Harman, who went peacefully to be with our Lord on October 2, 2025, in Mount Vernon, Washington.

Janice was born on February 9, 1933, to C.F. (Ted) Cosby and Zelpha Davis Cosby in Perry, Iowa. She spent her early years in Wilbur, Washington, where her father owned the local newspaper. Following high school, she graduated from the University of Washington School of Nursing, Swedish Hospital Division, and was a member of Chi Omega Sorority and Phi Beta Kappa Honorary Society.

In 1954, Janice married Reidar Ytgard, and together they were blessed with three daughters. She later married Gerald Harman of Mount Vernon, Washington, and welcomed his three children into her family. In addition to raising her family, she worked for 40 years as a nurse in a family practice in Burlington, Washington-a career marked by compassion and dedication.

Throughout her life, Janice was a member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church and active in Altar Guild. She served as past president of the Mount Vernon Emblem Club, was a member of Burlington Eagle's Auxiliary, and volunteered at the Puget Sound Food Bank. She enjoyed baking, ceramics, swimming, and travel. She spent her retirement years at Logan Creek and The Bridge, where she was well known for her competitive card-playing skills.

Janice was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Gerald Harman; former husband, Reidar Ytgard; brother, Zane Cosby; stepson, Glenn Harman; and grandson, Brian Morrison. She is survived by her daughters, Wendy Morrison (Keith), Deanne Ballock (Jim), and Krista West; stepdaughters, Mary Jo Kirchoff (Kevin) and Kim Siemer (Hunter); nephew, David Cosby and niece, Shannon Schempp (Bill); thirteen grandchildren; and twenty-three great-grandchildren. She will be greatly missed and forever remembered by all who loved her.

A private family memorial is planned to honor her life.
