Janice Ilene Jones, 87, Indianapolis (formerly of Jonesboro), passed away at 5:15 am on Thursday, August 14, 2025, at Hamilton Trace in Fishers. She was born in Marion, Indiana, on Friday, August 12, 1938, to Jacob and Lucille (Wynn) Marley. On November 3, 1956, she married John Albert Jones, and he preceded her.
Janice attended Mississinewa High School as well as Fairmount High School and attended Taylor University. For 25 years, she worked at General Motors, retiring in 1998. Janice enjoyed volunteering with the Red Cross as well as University Nursing Home in Upland. She also loved cooking, sewing and gardening, particularly her flowers. She liked working on the computer and helping others. She loved canvas painting and working on jigsaw puzzles.
Survivors include her daughters, Debra (Gary Lee) Tackett of Indianapolis, Elizabeth Ann (Donald) Boothe of Avon; sisters, Priscella Cagle of TN, Darlene Garett of Ft. Wayne, Marilyn Cloud of Marion; brother, Charles Marley of Ft. Wayne; grandson, Alex (Emily) Boothe; great-grandsons, Theo and Ezra; as well as sisters-in-law, Deloris Jones and Mary Carolyn Jones.
Along with her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by her sisters, Lucille Purvis, Carol Boucher, Patricia Thurman; and brothers, Donald (Blanche) Marley, Bobby Marley, and Jack Marley.
The family will receive visitors from 10:00 am to 12:00 noon on Monday, August 18, 2025, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral & Cremation Service, Storey Chapel 400 E. Main St., Gas City, IN.
Immediately following the time of visitation, a service to celebrate Janice's life will begin at 12:00 noon with Ella Nickels officiating. Burial will take place at Gardens of Memory – Marion.
