Janice Marie Smith Northrop Liston, a beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on Oct 5, 2025, after a brief illness. Her life was a testament to resilience, grace, and unwavering love.
Janice was born on Oct 14, 1938, in Lincoln, NE to Loren C. and Marie (Knebel) Smith. She graduated from Lincoln High School and went on to work at the State Capitol. She then married and moved to Omaha. After her son went to college, she moved to Dallas, TX and worked for the Boy Scouts of America for many years as an executive assistant. She then retired to Mountain Home, AR where she appreciated small-town living for about 20 years. She moved to Lexington, KY a few years ago to be closer to her immediate family.
Jan enjoyed her family and her dachshunds. Her love of dogs included volunteering at the no kill shelter in Mountain Home. Her favorite holiday was Thanksgiving, when she decorated the house and had extended family over for a delicious turkey dinner. She relished traveling with her friend and had been to many countries around the world. Jan captured the memories of those travels with wonderfully detailed scrapbooks.
Janice was preceded in death by her parents and grandparents. She is survived by her son Scott Northrop (Dharlene), sister Carol Cotton, nephews Steve Winters and David Winters (Christina), grandchildren Paul Northrop (Ali) and Charlcie Sieg (Adam) and five great grandchildren.
Care Cremation and Funeral Service is honored to be entrusted with final care.
