Obituary
Janice Jean Meixel, 83, of
South Bend, IN passed away of natural causes on Thursday, July 6, 2023.
She was born to the late Margorie and Norbert Eckstein on February 18, 1940, in
Mishawaka, IN. Janice was a lifelong resident of the Mishawaka area and graduated from Mishawaka High School. She attended Vogue Beauty College where she received a license in cosmetology.
She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She is survived and remembered by many loved ones, first and foremost her loving husband Roy. June 10th marked their sixty-second wedding anniversary. Janice is also survived by her three children, Jeffery A Meixel of
Mishawaka, IN., Jill M Gunn (Rick) of
Three Rivers, MI., and Jamie L Gregory (Tom) of Bremen, IN; her nine grandchildren, Mallorie L Meixel, Hannah K Meixel, Gretta M Meixel, Matthew L Moser, Andrew J Moser, Nate C Moser, Aaron S Moser, Aubrey E Ellis, Makayla R Torma; and also her ten great-grandchildren. Janice was also blessed with countless lifelong friendships.
Janice was a lifelong member of St. Joseph Parish of Mishawaka and served many years in various capacities at the school where all three of her children attended. She was a devoted wife, mother, and proud grandmother. She understood the importance of faith and values. It was important for her that her children receive a Catholic education. Her children are thankful for the foundation, and the principles she instilled in them.
Janice was a loyal Notre Dame fan, particularly fond of football and women's basketball, rarely missing a game. She was also an avid golfer, proud to have attained a whole in-one in her golf career. Janice was an excellent cook and was well-known for her homemade noodles and the Jesus' birthday cakes that she made with her grandchildren every Christmas. She was also known for her decorating ability and wallpaper-hanging skills, assisting many friends and family members with her talent throughout the years.
Janice had an impact on all that knew her. She will be remembered and missed by all her family and friends but will never be forgotten.
The family will receive friends from 5 pm-8 pm on Thursday, July 13, 2023, at Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W. 8th Street, Mishawaka. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 am on Friday, July 14, 2023, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 220 W. 4th Street, Mishawaka. Janice will be laid to rest in Fairview Cemetery, Mishawaka.
