Janice Pickens Carter, 76, passed away in Tyler. Janice was born in Hopkins County to Kile Pickens and then wife, Geneva Pierce Pickens.

Janice married JM (Mike) Carter on June 10, 1966. They were married for 35 years and then companions for 17 years, until Mike passed away January 22, 2022, for a total of 52 years together.

Janice retired from law enforcement in 2012 after 27 years as a dispatcher.

She is survived by her daughter, Brandi and husband Brandon Sells; granddaughters, Darynn and husband Chris Thorn, Breanna and husband Brandon Simpson, Hanna and husband Cason Arrington; great granddaughters, Everleigh Thorn, Elliston Thorn and Brynlee Simpson. Lifelong friend, Delores Miles; sister-in-law, Jo Mitchell, as well as the ladies that she worked in dispatch with, Stephanie Stevens, Nancy Zeigler, Amber Hermann, Destiny Tweedy, Ruth Hailey and Gwen Vandeventer.

She is preceded in death by her parents; stepdad, Shaler (Bill) Boggs; sister, Shirley Bennett; brother, Dennis Pickens;  sister in laws, Bonnie Fry, Nona Vicars and Bootsie Carter.
