Janice Elaine (Moore) Plummer, 82 of Carmel, IN, passed away peacefully on November 29, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on October 16, 1942, in Youngstown, OH to the late Howard & Hazel (Minehart) Moore.
Jan was a 1961 graduate of Cardinal Mooney High School in Youngstown, OH and attended Youngstown State University, where she majored in Business. After college, she served as a flight attendant for Alleghany Airlines, a regional commuter service based in Pittsburgh, PA.
In 1965, she married the love of her life, James P. Plummer, whom she met on a blind date. Together, they raised two daughters and were married for 59 years. She was a devoted mother who was fully invested in the lives of her children --- from Blue Birds troop leader, CCD religion class instructor and slumber party hostess extraordinaire to delivery driver for her girls’ newspaper route, wedding planner and former committee member of the Butler University Parent Association --- Jan was always there for her daughters. In the late 1970s, as her daughters grew older, Jan worked as a sales representative for GTE Sylvania Incorporated.
She is survived by her husband, James Plummer, Carmel, IN; daughters Lori Buchanan, Carmel, IN and Jane (Terry) Seaman, Hamilton, OH; grandchildren, Tiffany (Sam) Harrison, Inwood, WV, Mathew Seaman, Hamilton, OH and Emily Buchanan, Westminster, CO; and great-grandchildren Henry Harrison, Eleanor Harrison and Mathilda Harrison.
Jan spent her final months in hospice. During that time, she received extraordinary care from a group of remarkable individuals. The family wishes to extend its heartfelt appreciation to Diane Dougherty, Laura & Bob Moffitt and Suzy & Rob LaPlante. Through the exceptional care Jan received from Paradigm Health’s team of nurses and aides, she was able to spend her remaining days at home surrounded by loved ones. The family is especially grateful for the compassionate care she received from Tammy DeRue, RN, BSN and aide Autumn Pachard.
Visitation will take place on Thursday, December 5, from 4-6 pm at Flanner Buchanan - Carmel at 325 E. Carmel Dr, Carmel, IN 46032. A funeral Mass will be held on Friday, December 6 at 10:30 am at St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church in Carmel. A burial will follow at New Palestine Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made to the Greater Indiana Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association and St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
