George Basista Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Davis-Becker Funeral Home - Struthers (AKA Davidson-Becker) on Feb. 4, 2026.
Lowellville - George "Larry" Basista, 63, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, at his home.

He was born on December 4, 1962, in Youngstown, Ohio, the son of the late Nicholas and Elva Lorraine (Roesler) Basista Sr. A lifelong resident of the Mahoning Valley, he was known affectionately by family and friends as "Larry."

He was a 1981 graduate of Ursuline High School and earned a bachelor's degree in Business and Accounting from Youngstown State University. Larry began his career with Chem Lawn and later went on to open and operate his own handyman business for several years before becoming disabled.

In his free time, Larry enjoyed watching movies, fishing, and spending time outdoors. He had a love for animals and it showed in simple ways-like making sure the birds and animals, even the wild ones, were cared for and fed. A devoted son, brother, and uncle, Larry treasured time spent with his family and was deeply loved by those who knew him.

In addition to his parents, Larry was preceded in death by his niece, Brandi Basista.

He is survived by his brothers, Nicholas Basista Jr. of Lowellville, Ohio, and William "Bill" Basista and his wife, Rachilla, of Struthers, Ohio; four nieces, Ashley, Angela, Danielle, and Emily Basista; and one nephew, Anthony Basista.

Private services were held on Friday, January 30, 2026, at Davidson-Becker Funeral Home, 11 Spring Street, Struthers. Larry was laid to rest at St. John the Baptist Catholic Cemetery in Lowellville.
