Janice Carla Riggs

Janice Carla Simpson Riggs, 85, of Hilliard, Florida passed away at her home Friday, March 6, 2026.  She was born November 21, 1940 in Kingsland, Georgia to the late Jesse Brown Simpson and Willie Bell Gay Simpson.  She retired in 2001 from the Madison County Florida School System.  She was an accomplished artist, enjoying painting and crochet.  In her spare time she loved working in her flowers and going crabbing.  She was a faithful member of Buford Grove Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister:  Jackie Hadaway and a brother:  Jimmy Simpson and a step-son:  Michael Norman Riggs.

She is survived by her husband of 35 years:  Norman "Rocky" Riggs; step-children:  Christine (Gregory) Collier, Lynn Lentz and Amy Brown; 3-sisters: Dot (Don) Hellemn, Maggie Drury and Bernice (Terry) Brown; a brother:  Ben (Regina) Simpson; 7-grandchildren and 14-great grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews and other relatives.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, March 10 at 2:00 PM at Buford Gove Baptist Church with Pastor Keith Carringer officiating.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.  The family will receive friends an hour prior to the service at the church.
