Janice Ann Skillman,79, passed away Thursday, September 25, 2025 under the compassionate care of hospice at Ava's House.
Janice Ann VanWinkle was born June 6, 1946, in Appleton, MN. She was the daughter of Howard and Mildred (Larson) VanWinkle.
Janice grew up in Appleton, MN, first on a farm until moving into town at the age of 12. She had many fond memories of her childhood growing up in Appleton.
Janice married Martin Skillman August 1, 1962, in Appleton, MN. Martin and Janice lived in Appleton, Shakopee, Ortonville, Sioux Falls and then finally made their home in Worthing, SD in 1976 where they continued to raise their five sons and made many wonderful memories which Janice cherished so very much.
Janice worked several jobs including waitressing at Chris' Grill, K-Products in Canton, SD for 20 years and ESI.
Janice enjoyed quilting, gardening, ceramics and puzzles. She made many quilts for her family members. She also loved house plants and flowers and had many beautiful plants throughout her home. Janice's greatest joy was spending time with her family, who loved being with her. Janice will be greatly missed by her family. Her smile and reassuring voice will never be forgotten. She was always there when you needed her.

Janice is survived by her sons Dean, Joe, Jerry, Marty (Jeannie); five grandchildren Sarah, Nick, Nate, Madie, and Ava; three great-grandchildren California, Chicago and Monroe; siblings Gerold (Marlys), Marlys Bartz, Betty (DuWayne) Underthun, and Dianne (Larry) Swartz; sister-in-law Mary Anderson and brother-in-law Dick Breum; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Martin, son Jim, grand-daughter Rylee, sisters-in-law Florence Long and Cathy Breum, and brother in-laws DeWayne Bartz, Don Anderson and John Long
A Funeral Service will be held Friday, October 3, 2025 at 12:00PM at Heritage Funeral Home with burial to follow at Worthing Cemetery. A Visitation will take place at 11:00am on Friday, October 3, 2025 at Heritage Funeral Home
