Janice Lee Taylor

1949 - 2026

Janice Lee (Messer) Taylor, age 76, of Six Lakes passed away peacefully on February 18, 2026, at home surrounded by her loving family. Born at St. Lawrence Hospital in Lansing, Michigan, to Russell and Della Messer, Jan grew up attending Grand Ledge Schools. In 1964, after moving to Lake Odessa, she met the love of her life, Roger Taylor. The two were married in 1966 and shared 59 years together. In her early years, Jan worked at Oldsmobile in Lansing. In 1978, they moved to Lakeview, to purchase Lakeview Lanes. Jan had many entrepreneurial adventures including operating the bowling alley, a trophy shop, video store, flower shop, pizza parlor, and later selling on eBay.Jan loved painting ceramics and teaching others through her painting classes. She could often be found tending her garden with multiple fur babies by her side.She leaves behind her devoted husband, Roger Taylor; her mother, Della Messer; her sons, Troy (Kimberly) Taylor and Tim (Laura) Taylor; her grandsons, Trenton (Casey), Tristan (Megan), and Taydden (Marissa); and her great-grandchildren, GraceLynn, Adessa, and Miles. She is also survived by her brother, Russ (Sue) Messer; nieces Kelly and Amber; nephew Tim Messer; and sister-in-law Rosalie Brown. She was preceded in death by her father, Russell Messer; her brother, Randy Messer; her parents-in-law, Robert and Margaret Culver; and her siblings-in-law Robert, Richard, Ronald, Ruth, and Rhoda. Janice will be laid to rest at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Ionia, Michigan. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 28th at noon at Brecht's Signature Events, 2195 W Fleck Road, Six Lakes, Michigan, with lunch to follow.
