Janice Wommack Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Scott Funeral Home - Alvin on Mar. 4, 2026.
Janice Lee Wommack, age 76, went to be with her Lord and Savior, on February 13, 2026. She was a 1967 graduate of Wyandotte High School, Kansas City, Kansas. Janice met her former husband, Don Schurr, in high school, and were married and had two children. Later, they settled in the Houston, Texas area.

Janice worked as a clerk for the Department of Human Services for the State of Texas for many years and after her divorce from Don she also worked as a part time receptionist for Golfcrest Country Club in Pearland, Texas on the weekends. She attended Heights Baptist Church in Alvin, Texas for several years and enjoyed singing hymns and fellowship with her ladies Sunday School Group. She always had a smile on her face and a message about Jesus-even her voice mail message said "Remember, Jesus loves you!"

Jan made jokes about herself a lot-if she poked fun at someone else, she feared that she had offended and would immediately apologize. It seemed she lived in a constant state of apology (ha!). Jan hated being the center of attention and had no idea how special she was.

When Jan was a young child, she was stricken with measles meningitis and was in a coma for several days. She awoke with some paralysis, had to learn to walk again and dealt with other ongoing health issues. One of the first things she said when she awoke was, "Mama, I saw Jesus!" We are thankful for His promise that Jan is with Him again.

Jan adored her children, her many grandchildren and her great grandchildren--as well as her two cats, Charlie and Louie!

Janice was preceded in death by her former husband, Don Schurr, and parents Mack Neal Wommack and Dora Lee Wommack Schaefer. She is survived by her children, son Jason Schurr (Terri) and grandchildren Gabriela Schurr and Jason Matthew, of Angleton, Texas and daughter Melissa (Schurr) Summerall (Wes) and grandsons Michael (Heather) Koncaba and great grandchildren Lilly and Phillip, grandsons Thor, Ozzy and Tommy, of Alvin, Texas, and her two sisters, Jean Kay Sheridan, of Kansas City, Kansas, and Joan Cliff (Bob), of Springfield, Missouri, and several nephews and nieces. A private ceremony will be held later with the family in Fair Grove, Missouri.
