Janis K. Brown

Janis K. Brown, 78, of New Madrid, MO, passed away peacefully on January 1, 2026, at St. Francis Hospital in Cape Girardeau, MO. She was born on March 15, 1947, in Sikeston, MO, to the late Glennie Hazel (Harris) Pearson and Delmar Ira Pearson.

Janis was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Varnel Pearson, Kenneth Pearson, and Don Pearson; her sister, Marie Williamson; and her granddaughter, Annemarie Brown.

On February 15, 1969, Janis married the love of her life, Donald "Don" Brown, in New Madrid, MO. She spent 29 years teaching first grade, later assisting students in earning their GEDs. Janis was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother whose greatest joy was her family-especially her grandchildren. She loved sewing, quilting, cooking, canning, gardening and shopping on QVC and camping at the Current River, but her happiest moments were always spent surrounded by loved ones.

She is survived by her husband, Don Brown of New Madrid, MO; her sons, Donnie (Amy) Brown of New Madrid, MO, and Darren (Faith) Brown of Sikeston, MO; her daughter, Christie (Gary) Kenedy of Matthews, MO; her brother, Jimmy (Mary) Pearson of Sikeston, MO; and her cherished grandchildren, Donnie Ray Brown (Kinlee), Noah Brown, Laynie Brown, Lee Kenedy, and Allie Kenedy.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 6, 2026, at the Church of Christ in New Madrid, MO, with burial to follow at Mounds Park Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. the same day at the church. Arrangements are under the care of DeLisle Funeral Home of Portageville.

Janis will be remembered for her kindness, her dedication to education, and the love she poured into her family and community.
