Janis A. Bruce, 73, a beacon of gentle kindness, passed away peacefully on April 24, 2025, surrounded by the love of her devoted husband. Born on January 9, 1952, in Jamaica Queens, New York, to her late parents, Frank and Susan (Maracek) Macey.
Janis grew up in the bustling atmosphere of Long Island, New York, in Farmingdale before her family moved to the serene surroundings of Schroon Lake in 1958. She was a proud graduate of Schroon Lake in 1970, and her thirst for knowledge led her to further her education at Canton and Albany Business College. Janis embarked on a career in banking in Schenectady, New York.
Fate smiled upon Janis in the summer of 1974 when she connected with her soulmate, Robert "Bob" M. Bruce. Their shared passions and love for the Adirondacks blossomed into a beautiful partnership, culminating in their marriage on April 10, 1976. Together, they navigated life's adventures, making homes in Schroon Lake, Queensbury, New York, and Florida, before settling in
Glenville, New York in 1986. Janis's professional journey saw her excel as an apartment manager, with her most notable role being at the Catholic Diocese Apartments in Albany, New York.
Janis's life was one of engagement and involvement, as evidenced by her long-standing commitment to the Thomas Corners Fire Department Auxiliary, where she served with dedication as a life member. Her community spirit was matched only by her love for her family.
She was predeceased by her parents, and her sister, Patty Macey. Her legacy is lovingly carried on by her husband, Robert M. Bruce; her step-daughter, Jolie (Dave) Honey; step-grandchildren, Ryan Honey and Rhianna (Dakota) Ovitt; and her step-great-grandchild, Aurora Ovitt. Her brother, John (Naomi) Macey; and numerous nieces and nephews, Matt (Jane) Bruce, Adam (Jennifer) Bruce, Bethany Bruce, Patience "PK" (Tim) Beadnell, Tobi Bruce, Johnny (Gabrielle) Macey, Joe Macey, Brian Macey, and Danielle Macey, will forever cherish the memories of her gentle spirit.
Janis's life was rich with simple pleasures. She relished her Friday night dates with Bob, often enjoying a dinner and a movie. Together, they traveled extensively, yet no destination held their hearts quite like Schroon Lake. Janis was also a devoted gardener, her hands often found nurturing the soil of her beloved flower and vegetable gardens. Her green thumb was a testament to her patience and care, qualities that she extended to every life she touched.
Those who knew Janis will remember her as the embodiment of thoughtfulness and kindness. She approached life with a gentle demeanor that earned her the love and respect of all who had the privilege to know her. Her memory will be treasured as a guiding light of compassion and warmth.
