Janis Honaker Obituary
In loving memory of Janis Fay Honaker, who passed away on August 5, 2024, at the Adler Center for Caring in Aldie, VA. Janis was born on April 23, 1940, to the late William Thurston Layne and Hattie Mae Hill Layne.
Janis dedicated 17 years of her life to serving Fairfax County Public School system until her retirement in 2005. Her passion for assisting special education children left a lasting impact on all those she interacted with. Janis was a devoted Mom and Mamaw, and loved her family dearly.
In addition to her parents, Janis was preceded in death by her husband Halford Honaker; grandson, Bentley Rylin Honaker; her identical twin Janett Gay Layne and her brothers, Jerry and Cecil Layne.
She will be dearly missed by her son, Lester Honaker, her daughter, Angie Honaker both of Alexandria, VA, as well as her grandchildren Joshua Honaker and wife Denise of Alexandria, VA, Lauren Gillison and husband Darnell of Glen Allen, VA, and Jake Howard of Henrico, VA., and great grandson to arrive in January 2025. Janis is also survived by her siblings James Layne of Alexandria, VA and Mae Bowman and husband, Aldon of Spotsylvania, VA. In addition to her immediate family, she leaves behind several nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law, and sisters-in-law.
Friends and loved ones are invited to pay their respects at the visitation service scheduled for Saturday, August 10, 2024, starting at 10:00 AM at the Farris Cremation & Funeral Center – Forest Hills Chapel in Abingdon. The funeral service will follow at the same location at 11:00 AM with Pastor Jerry Eggers officiating. The burial will follow at Forest Hills Memory Gardens, pallbearers will be Joshua Honaker, Jake Howard, Darnell Gillison, David Honaker, John Honaker, and Jimmy Lee Honaker.
Janis Fay Honaker will forever be remembered for her kindness, dedication, and unwavering love for her family and community. May she rest in peace.
