JANIS JANSONS Obituary

JANIS "JOHN" JANSONS WESTMINSTER/LANCASTER - Janis "John" Jansons, 86, passed peacefully on Thursday, February 6, 2025, at UMass Medical Center-University Campus in Worcester. He is survived by his beloved wife, Patricia (Drisdelle) Richard; two daughters, Michelle Jansons-Hoey and husband Brian; and Katherine Jansons Figueira; stepson Mark Richard; grandchildren, Alex Mahmutoglu and husband Kadir, Abygail Hoey and fiancé Evan Rouse, Morgan Figueira, Mason Figueira, and Kylie Richard; three great-grandchildren, Evren, Pars, and Ayla; generations of nieces, nephews, extended family, and many dear friends. He is preceded in death by his wife of 35 years, Marilyn (Labbe) Jansons, and two sisters, Aija Gogan and Liesma Pachulski. John was born in Tingere, Latvia, son of the late Alexander and Elma (Meikules) Jansons. As a young boy, during Russian invasion of his homeland, John and his family fled to Germany and later emigrated to the United States, settling in Long Island, N.York. He graduated from Hicksville High School, class of 1957, and enlisted to serve in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. While stationed at Fort Devens, John met his future wife Marilyn Labbe and the two settled in Lancaster where together they raised their family. Professionally, John spent his career as journeyman printer, working for Colonial Press, Arrow Typographics, and Eusey Press until his retirement job as a part-time clerk for Gardner Spirits. Following Marilyn's passing in 1996, John met Patricia Richard, with whom he has shared the past 28 years. They made their home in Westminster and enjoyed winter months with friends in St. Petersburg, Fla. Always active, John was a man of many hobbies and talents, notably skiing, golf, writing, painting, and playing the piano. He cherished time spent in the company of his family, and, above all, was a devoted husband, loving father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. Calling hours were held from 4 until 7 p.m. on Tuesday, February 11, 2025, in Philbin-Comeau Funeral Home, 176 Water St., Clinton. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, February 12, 2025, in St. John the Evangelist Church, 80 Union St., Clinton, with burial following in St. John's Cemetery, Lancaster.
