Janis Jane Johnson, age 76, passed away on Saturday December 13, 2025, at Diversicare of Quitman.
Memorial service will be held at a future date. Robert Barham Family Funeral Home is honored to be entrusted with arrangements.
She was born in Pulaski, TN on May 22, 1949, to the late George Childress and Irene Childress.
She traveled extensively while employed with the U.S. National Park Service and spent time researching her family genealogy. Janis was very active in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, where she served in children's church teaching them the Gospel; she would often say how much she loved her babies. Her journey on this earth was marked by love, compassion, and unwavering faith in God. She would help anyone she could, especially those living around her in the parks where she lived and worked.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dennis Johnson; parents, George Childress and Irene Childress.
Janis is survived by her siblings, Georgia Corcoran, Thomas Childress, and Roger Childress (Sandy), and a host of other relatives, Church family, and friends.
Her passing has left a void in the hearts of all those touched by her. There are no words that can express how grateful and blessed we are for her friends and church family sisters who were there for Janis through her battle with cancer until the end.
2 Timothy 4:7 - I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.
The family would like to thank Diversicare of Quitman and Gentiva Hospice for their very special care.
