Our cherished and loved wife and mother, Janis McCall, passed away on October 5th, just one day after her 86th birthday. She leaves behind her husband, Joel McCall, and her children, daughter Mollie McCall Forderhase and son John McCall.
Janis spent all her life bringing joy and hope to all who knew her, leaving a lasting legacy of loving children. Graduating from Freed-Hardeman College, she then attended Union University and Peabody College at Vanderbilt University, studying at the School of Social Work. As a social worker for the Tennessee Department of Children’s Services, she spent the next thirty-seven and a half years advocating for abused children along with working on cases involving adoption, foster-care and cases with unmarried mothers and neglected older adults.
But the real legacy she left was with her family. She was married to Joel McCall on October 21, 1961, and they spent sixty-three years together. Throughout their marriage, they proved to be the best example for a couple that their children could ever have, always providing encouragement, support, and unquestioning love. Not to mention enjoying a great laugh and ripe tomatoes.
Putting into words all the wonderful things Janis was and did in her 86 years of life is impossible. Suffice to say that she was the most wonderful, joyful, and loving person one could hope to call “friend,” “wife,” or “mother.”
Besides her husband, Joel, and children Mollie and John, Janis is survived by her sister, Patsy Bulliner, her son-in-law, Tim Forderhase and her daughter-in-law, Holly McCall. She also leaves behind her beloved grandchildren: Amanda, Alexandra and Anna Forderhase, and Anniston, Grady and Wiley McCall.
Services will be held at Shackelford Funeral Directors of Henderson - Crook Avenue Chapel, with visitation Wednesday, October 9th from 5PM-8PM, and funeral services Thursday, October 10th at 11AM.
