Jared Dudley
March 23, 1944 - April 25, 2025
Jared Eliot Dudley passed away peacefully on April 25, 2025. He was 81 years old. Jared was born in New Haven, CT on March 23, 1944, to Charles & Amy Dudley. He was active in the Boy Scouts of America in his youth and at fifteen was selected for a world traveling adventure with the organization. He saw such places as Egypt, Italy, Greece, England, Thailand, Japan, Cambodia, India, Turkey, and the Philippines for the 50th Boy Scout world jamboree. He also loved sailing and fishing in Long Island Sound. He attended college at Kansas Wesleyan University earning a bachelor's degree in chemistry. After college he joined the Navy where he was a junior-grade lieutenant for the Public Health Service and worked as a chemist for the Air Pollution Control Administration in Cincinnati, OH. While in Cincinnati he met the love of his life, Jean Stephens, and they were married on June 7, 1969. Jared's passion was farming and ranching, so shortly after marriage they moved to northern Idaho to pursue this dream. He continued his education at the University of Idaho where he earned a master's degree in natural science. Soon after, their union was blessed with four daughters: Eliza, Stephanie, Dina, & Kathi.
Time moved the family, but they eventually settled in Buhl, ID where they farmed and ranched for many years. He also worked for the United States Department of Commerce for many years as an inspector. He loved his girls and spent much of his time as a volunteer fireman, EMT, and 4H leader/horse superintendent. Retirement brought the couple to Flagler, CO, where they have resided for the last several years. In his later years, he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, especially attending various sporting events and activities. He loved to play cards and to travel with Jean in their fifth wheel camper. He is survived by his wife Jean of Flagler, CO. Daughter Eliza (Dave) Hansen of Twin Falls, ID, granddaughter Abbie (Jace) Sparrow and great granddaughters Blake & Brooke, and grandson Austin Hansen all of Twin Falls, ID. Daughter Stephanie (Tom) Davidson of Twin Falls, ID. Daughter Dina (Brendan) Hermes and grandchildren Clara, Trason, Dallan, Emerick, Abram, & Kenan Hermes of Flagler, CO. Daughter Kathi (Anton) Hermes and grandchildren Nicholas, Gabrielle, Bradley, Colten, & Martin Hermes of Fort Morgan, CO, and great granddaughter Sadie Hermes of Bennett, CO. Jared was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Joseph, sister Lois, and granddaughter Josilyn Hermes.
A viewing and rosary will be at The Springs Funeral Services at 4310 Austin Bluffs Parkway in Colorado Springs, Colorado on Wednesday May 7th beginning at 6 p.m. for the viewing and 7 p.m. for the rosary. Funeral services will be held at the Servants of the Holy Family Catholic Church located at 8528 Kenosha Drive in Colorado Springs, Colorado on Thursday May 8th at 10 a.m. It will be followed by the graveside service in Elbert, Colorado at the Elbert Cemetery. A reception will be held directly after the graveside service in the Elbert Grange Hall. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Servants of the Holy Family Catholic Church or to Washington County 4-H in Akron, Colorado or Twins Falls County 4-H in Filer, Idaho.
