Obituary published on Legacy.com by Perl Funeral Home - Medford on Dec. 3, 2024.
Jar, I'm sorry. I almost wrote you a standard obituary. You were anything but standard. You were, and still are, larger than life. We could feel the crackle of energy when you walked into a room. You lived great, and a state champion wrestler like you deserves something great. You always said you had one last good fight in you and when the stupid cancer came along, the great and terrible angel of death offered you a chance to wrestle. You took it and nearly defeated it. The entire stadium was filled to bursting with the cheers and support of all the people you have loved and who love you dearly. Those relationships will never die- in that way, you won!
You were pulled home just in time for the heavenly turkey bowl. I knew your friends Matt and Kendall, your grandpa, my dad, and Coach Casto were looking for a good left tackle. So, they called you up for the game on November 26, 2024.
Work was your play. Relaxing was never your idea of fun - outdoor activities, yardwork, tennis, running, building, and socializing were your joys. You crammed your 50 years with more life than most of us will if we live to be 100. I like to imagine you running along the beach, in the fog, just out of sight, with our dog, Pepper, flopping along beside you.
You had an incredible ability to bring light, love and laughter into all your interactions and you knew how to tell a story. The stories of your adventures in college both at the University of Utah and at Pacific University are treasured memories and your mission stories in your beloved Ecuador are legendary. I think most of your work stories are true as you dedicated nearly 23 years to bringing good healthcare to the community while working for Asante, and you were blessed, in turn, to receive tender care at their hands.
Thank you for being such a faithful example of what a true disciple of Christ looks like as you served in so many callings for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. As a bishop, seminary teacher, young men's leader and High Councilor in both Eagle Point and
Medford, Oregon, you were devoted to those you served. Your tender heart was uniquely suited to listen with compassion, advise with honesty, and laugh when needed, like when you found out the church had been vandalized, not by people, but by some hogs that escaped from a nearby farm.
You are our shining star. Well done, Jar! Well done!
We love you intensely Jared Keith Hill and will forever!
Your cherished wife, Jennifer
Your amazing and rowdy kids, Tanner, Grace, Elena, and Dawson
Your fabulous parents, Paul and Laurie
Your wonderful, hooligan siblings, Bryan, David, Julie, Andrea, and Evan
Believe it or not, even the darn cats miss you!
"Out of the night that covers me,
Black as the Pit from pole to pole,
I thank whatever gods may be
For my unconquerable soul.
In the fell clutch of circumstance
I have not winced nor cried aloud.
Under the bludgeonings of chance
My head is bloody, but unbowed.
Beyond this place of wrath and tears
Looms but the Horror of the shade,
And yet the menace of the years
Finds, and shall find, me unafraid.
It matters not how strait the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll,
I am the master of my fate:
I am the captain of my soul."
